As I drove home last night, I realized something: I have given up control of my life. At least, I've given up part of it. For some time now, TV has had a certain measure of lordship over me. When I walk in the door, I turn it on. I fall asleep to it. Sometimes, I even leave it on just so that a certain show will greet me upon my return.
But no more!
As of June 1st, 2006, I will prove to the entire world that TV has no power over me.
I am going on a 30 day TV fast.
That's right. I'm not going to watch any TV for 30 days. Nothing live, nothing taped. I'm not even going to watch DVDs. The TV in my apartment will remain off for the entire time. That's 720 hours. 43,200 minutes. 2,592,000 seconds.
I have wasted way too much of the past year letting my mind go numb while I watch hour after hour of pointless programming.
"So Josh, what are you going to do with all of the free time that you're going to gain from this fast?"
I'm so glad that you asked. I'm going to use it to better myself. I'm going to spend more time in God's word. I'm going to pray more. I'm going to read at least 2 books. I'm going to work on more graphics. I'm going to dream of ways to make our ministry better. I'm going to work out more. I'm going to sleep more. I'm going to begin learning Italian. I'm going to try out more new recipes. And I'm going to journal and reflect the whole way through.
You don't think I can do it, do you? Care to make it interesting? I invite you all to keep me accountable on this. Feel free to call me anytime to check up on me. I need all of the help with this I can get.
I'm going to prove to myself, the world, and especially the TV, that I will not be controlled by anything!
Let the countdown begin...
