Important Thoughts #3...

I can't help, since it is Christmas morning (well, technically afternoon now), to think about the nature of this holiday celebration; of how it is all born out of God's great love for us. How, two thousand years ago, the thousands of years of set-up allowed the time to be just right for God to send His son to rescue us from ourselves and restore our relationship with Him to what it once was in the garden: naked. But not just physically nude. Naked emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. When you're naked you can't hide anything. You can't hold anything back. You are completely vulnerable and open. (Why do you think so many killers attack people in the shower in movies?) That's how it used to be with us in our relationship with God, and with each other.

Donald Miller has something to say about this in Searching For God Knows What. I just finished this morning! Chapter 14: Page 226...

Anything less than this complete trust...would not be love, anything less than pure trust would be a kind of careful negotiation. And careful negotiation isn't love. A person must be willing to be dashed on the rocks or made the fool in exchange for a relationship in order for pure love to take place. And in our spirituality, anything less indicates a question of God's character.
