Hot Fuzz...

"Well, I wouldn't argue that it was a no holds barred, adrenalin fueled thrill ride. But, there is no way you can perpetrate that amount of carnage and mayhem and not incur a considerable amount of paperwork."

Ladies and gentlemen, you are about to be a part of history. Years from now, your children will ask where you were when this event occurred. You will begin to recount to them the story, with much detail, of the day you bore witness to the first-ever certified 5 Yarmulke™ rating given here at "Part of the Process". And so, without further delay...

Hot Fuzz
Running Time: 2 hrs. 1 min.
Directed By: Edgar Wright
Starring: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Jim Broadbent, Timothy Dalton

Let me start by saying that this movie is not your typical parody. Most parodies like to put themselves up on a hill and look down on the source material that they mock, as if they're better than. But these guys, who also made 2004's Shaun of the Dead, love the films that they poke fun at so much, their movies are more like homages than straight parody. Hot Fuzz is their tribute to action movies, and it is great!

So, what was good?
  • This movie is incredible at being self-aware (knowing what it is and what it's about) but not taking itself too seriously (the characters take pride and enjoyment in spouting witty quips after they defeat a bad guy).

  • Simon Pegg is great as a super intense, over acheiving cop. Word is that he lost 30 lbs. for the part. He makes a totally convincing action hero, even if he does have red hair.

  • The action in the movie is incredible. At one point, an old lady fires a gun at Pegg, who then procedes to run towards her and dropkick her in the face. Oh yeah...

  • But nothing. I thought this movie was incredible.

And so, to Hot Fuzz, I give the honor of being awarded the very first certified 5 Yarmulke™ rating.

If you like action and comedy (especially British humour) then you will love this movie. It's definitle an opening night flick. If you want to have fun at the movies, go see Hot Fuzz...
