I'm Smarter Than...

It was about this time last year that I became just a little bit obsessed with the Food Network. Consequently, I've spent the past year trying my best to learn to be an Iron Chef. Well, lately I've taken on a new TV obsession. For the past few weeks I've been watching a lot of the Discovery Channel and History Channel.

I'm not sure why, but after watching these channels for a few hours, I feel smarter. Not smarter because I just learned how tall Peter the Great was, but smarter as in "I didn't just waste my time by watching that"...

Here are a few of my new favorites:

Discovery Channel:
  • Cash Cab- People get picked up in a cab in NYC to find that they're on a trivia game show. They answer questions on the way to their destination. That is, unless they make three mistakes. Then then get dumped off on the side of the street. I would really love to be on this show. But the chances of me finding this one cab in New York City are about as likely as me finding a Nintendo Wii at this point.

  • Deadliest Catch- This show is all about crab fishermen in the Bering Sea. They have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. And it... is... AWESOME! You think 24 has action? Watch these guys literally fight for their lives. Dang! These guys are tough!

  • Man vs. Wild- This guy gets dropped off in random locations with just a knife, a canteen, and a flint. Then, he's got to survive. But, if something happens to him, wouldn't the camera crew just help him out? Take a look at Bear's Ten Desert Island Books List. He's got some good ones on there.

  • Mythbusters- Duh. See here...

    History Channel:
  • The States- I knew MY state was awesome. But who knew others were too?

  • Mail Call- The Gunney hosts this show which answers viewer questions about military history. Hoo Rah!

  • American Eats- Are you telling me that there's a show that combines my love of food and history? I'm all in...
