American Idol: 4 for 8...

Looks like we're down to our final four...

Before I comment on the elimination of Brooke White, I need to vent a little about some of the choices that the idol producers have made so far this season.

First off, I'm beginning to think that you pick the season "mentors" by simply hitting shuffle on your iTunes. While I enjoyed the Dolly Parton night in general, choosing Andrew Lloyd Weber and Neil Diamond is like inviting your grandmother to your prom. Isn't this a pop singing competition? ALW is about as relevant to pop music as... well... Neil Diamond. Which brings us to the jewish Elvis. Let's start with the fact that none of the contestants knew any of his songs. Now let's go to how the most useful bit of advice he offered was "I liked it." or "He's a prodigy." I mean, everybody in their mid-thirties and beyond know about him (and fans of Saving Silverman I guess), but has he really made that big of an impact on music and entertainment to have him "teaching" others on how to make their mark?

OK, I'm done...

Now onto Brooke... I think she's talented, but not platinum record talented. She's just too old fashioned to be successful. Not to mention the two times she stopped and restarted songs. How Carly got voted off before her is a mystery that scientists will study hundreds of years from now.

Syesha will be next, even though she's got tons more talent than Jason Castro. (How has that guy made it so far?) Castro will go after her, and then it will be a war of the Davids...
