SC State Fair: Part 1...

Yesterday I went with my brother and some other family members to the SC State Fair to see The Charlie Daniels Band. It was a great concert and, of course, the food was amazing. Here are some of the highlights...

I got to see some pretty amazing people while at the show. Like this guy...

Oh yeah. Mullet made into a ponytail with multiple rubber bands. That's like, triple the points in Redneck Hairstyle Bingo...

This might help you come up with a Halloween costume...

Ever wonder what a redneck superhero would wear? Look no further. Here's a great example of a leather tassel cape. After this, she raised her arms and flew away... straight to the rodeo...

OK, let's play a game of "I Spy". Do you see anything unusual about the guy with the green shirt? Look closely...

Still don't see it? How about if I zoom in...

That's right. Grandpa was packing heat at the show. This is probably the number one reason why they stopped selling beer at the fair a few years back. Thank God...

Even my youngest cousin, Harrington, enjoyed the music. Too bad we couldn't find him a cowboy hat that was small enough...

I'd bet that he'd look good with a giant belt buckle.

After the show, my brother, aunt and I walked over to Charlie's tour bus to see if we could get a picture. He wasn't going to come out, but a guy took my brother's copy of his book in and got an autograph for him.

All in all, we had a great time. Here's a picture of Caleb and I with him making an awkward smile to prove it!

And now, onto the food! Here's everything that I ate at the fair yesterday...

I started out with some Fiske Fries. Forget McDonalds. Forget In-N-Out. These are the best french fries anywhere. Spraying vinegar on them makes them even better!

I followed that up with a true delicacy: chocolate covered bacon (pictured on the left). Well, that and a deep fried banana (pictured on the right). The choco-bacon tasted exactly like you'd think a piece of bacon dipped in chocolate would taste. Seriously. Think about how that might taste. That's it. I was really hoping the banana would be similar to P.F. Chang's Banana Spring Rolls, but it wasn't. Not bad. But not great...

Next on the journey to my first heart attack was a giant grilled turkey leg. I'd never had one before, but had seen them at almost every theme park I've ever been to. I wanted to try one so bad! So I did... Ehhh. I wasn't that impressed. Was the meat supposed to be pink? Uh oh. I might have turkey flu...

Last but not least, I got the little cinnamon/sugar donuts. They're incredible!

Before you ask, yes. I ate everything I just pictured. And no. I'm not done. I'm going back this week for more. Don't worry. I'm going to run there and back to work off the calories.

On out way out, Caleb and I swung by one of the buildings to check out the sandcastle they build every year. I love these things...

So it was a great day. I'll post on it again when I go for round 2! I can't wait...

I love it. all of it. For a spell in my late teens and early twenties, I considered myself "too cool" for the fair. Who was I kidding? I'd never be as cool as Leather Tassle Lady, no matter how hard I tried.
